History

In the early 1900s, the Columbia Heights area was a rolling grassland where several dairy herds were pastured. A census recorded 123 residents living here. The work of this congregation began in the fall of 1909.

                                                            The Jerpbak Sisters

The missionary zeal of some members of a Mission Society at Augsburg College, together with the three Jerpbak sisters of Trinity Lutheran Church near Augsburg, gave birth to the ministry that led to establishing First Lutheran. A Sunday school was started by them with eight children in the old fire barn on the site of the present City Hall.

For the last 100 years, this congregation has been committed to raising and educating children in the Christian faith so they may grow in love for God and in service to others. We pray God will empower us to continue

this work in God's children and in God's world!
