First Communion
As Lutherans we welcome all people to the table of Jesus Christ. Jesus commanded his disciples, "Take and eat...do this in remembrance of me." We remember the promises we receive through Jesus' body and blood every time we receive this holy meal. We believe God's grace is for all people and all are welcome at the Lord's table.
Therefore, we leave the timing of receiving Holy Communion for the first time as a child to the discretion of the parent. We commune children as young as 1 year old because sharing this meal is part of immersing them in this life of faith. Understanding the meaning of the sacraments is a lifelong journey, but we do offer an instruction class for children and their parents. Following the class, children participate in Maundy Thursday worship, when they will officially receive for the first time. It is a very meaningful, exciting time in our life of faith together! Please visit with one of our pastors if you would like to learn more about Holy Communion or our instruction for it.
