Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is one of the two sacraments in the Lutheran Church (the other being Holy Communion). We baptize infants, children and adults because we believe that in baptism God is the sole actor. God names and claims us as God's children through our baptism and we are publicly welcomed into the family of faith - God's Church. If an infant or child is being baptized, parents and sponsors make promises on behalf of the child. They promise to teach the child the essentials of faith - the Apostle's Creed, the Lord's Prayer, and the Ten Commandments - bring them to God's house for worship and raise them in the Christian faith. The congregation also makes promises to uphold the child and their parents in prayer and welcome them into the life we share through Jesus Christ.

Baptism is not the saving act. Jesus' death on the cross is the only thing that frees us from our sin. But in baptism we are gathered together as the one Body of Christ, so we may live, worship and serve together throughout the world in Christ's name.

Parents interested in having a child baptized are invited to attend our baptism orientation class on the first Wednesday of every month. Please contact one of the pastors with any questions. We look forward to celebrating this milestone in the faith with you!
